The annual roadshow led by BBC Radio Northampton returns for a fourth year.
Lunch time presenter, Helen Blaby, who is the face behind the ‘Big Health Check’ will be starting the roadshow in Daventry on Wednesday 16 October where she will be broadcasting live and taking part in activities on offer and talking about to maintain good health.
This year’s events will take place at the following venues: Daventry Leisure Centre on Wednesday 16 October, The Pemberton Centre in Rushden on Thursday 17 October and Northampton’s County Cricket Ground on Friday 18 October. All of them are free of charge and will be on from 12-3pm each day.
Local partners Northamptonshire Sport have been working with local leisure providers and sports clubs from each of the 3 areas to offer a number of taster sessions in a variety of activities. These include traditional activities such as bowls and dance to walking sports such as football and netball for those that still want to enjoy playing as part of a team, but at a slightly slower pace than the running version, while still providing the physical benefits.
There will also be the opportunity for attendees to try ‘Get Up & Go’ sessions designed to increase muscle strength, balance and coordination as a way of preventing falls.
In addition to the sport and exercise taster sessions there will be a number of health professionals from a range of health and wellbeing services available to chat to providing free advice including; healthy eating and nutrition experts, Podiatrist, Physiotherapists, Occupational Health, Pharmacists, Oral Health and Mental Health Specialists.
Helen will also be joined by Dr Olivia Stevenson for skin cancer screening, local mental health experts, and pharmacists from Northampton General Hospital.
There’s also the chance for you to have your blood pressure checked, speak to the Diabetes Team, and take part in some meditation.
