Young blue tits have fledged from one of our nest boxes in the last two weeks and are now amongst a variety of young birds we’re seeing in the garden. These include coal tit, great tit, greenfinch and goldfinch.
Sadly, arriving home from a weekend away, we found the house martin nest under our eaves with a gaping hole in the side with the missing piece lying on the ground. There was no sign of eggs or young or, for that matter, adult birds. However a few days later house martins were seen flying up to the nest so maybe it will be repaired and another attempt at breeding made. On a positive note there do seem to be more house martin nests around the village this year.
