Badby Fayre 2018 on Sept 2 –

Annual Show – Exhibits had to be set up in place between 8.30am and 10.15am in the village hall and marquee. After judging in the morning, it was open to everyone from 2pm to 4.30pm to see the exhibits and prize entries of fruit, vegetables, flower arrangements, photos, baking and jam making skills.

Presentations were made at 4.15pm.  Debbie Chandler won the Best in Show Cup and the Worshipful Company of Gardeners’ Certificate of Merit for Floral Art.  Karen and Alan Brown won the Felton Perpetual Cup and the RHS Banksian Medal for most points in floral, fruit and veg.  The new Sidney Hirons Cup for best potatoes went to Sue Ingham.  Other cups were awarded for flower arranging to Liz Hudson, garden produce to Zelda Shapter, Sue Papworth (for preserves) to Sanchia Redston, floral to T & L Bird, home produce (baking) to Lisa Jane Walls, photography to Karen Alexander, craftwork to Lynne Green, Christine Payne (children’s) to Ellie Burton and the Gardeners‘ Diploma for Excellence in Horticulture for a container of three fruits to Kate Kleiner.

Tea, coffee, squash and home-made cakes were on sale.

On The Green – The Fayre went Green on the Greens 1 – 5pm in aid of St Mary’s Church  restoration in the afternoon.

There were stalls, children’s games and rides, entertainment and bouncy castles  and a Grand Prize Draw with a first prize of £250. The draw took place at The Maltsters with first prize going to Mojo Stumpenhusen. 2nd Spa Day – Lynne Green; 3rd Hamper – Izzy Jordon; Secrets Manicure – M Packer; 4 Ball Golf – Kate Barlow; 10 day De Vere Spa Pass for two – Anne Claypole White; Cocktail Experience at The Maltsters – Linda Davies; Sunday Lunch for 4 at The Windmill – Chris Nelson; Bottle Whisky – Chris Nelson;  Bottle Organic Prosecco – Jeff Jennings;  Bottle Red Wine – Daniel & Helen at The Windmill and Bottle liquors  – Peter McAlister.

The Fun Dog Show ran from 2-4 pm.  The winners were:

  • Waggiest tail -Amy with Daisy
  • Loveliest  lady – Karen with Tess
  • Fabulous fella – Steph with Louie
  • Golden Oldie – Liz with Chachi
  • Obedience – Obi with Minnie
  • Junior handler – Hermione with Harley
  • Dog trick – Liz with Mia
  • Gorgeous puppy – Tayla with Simba
  • Sausage race – Jamie with Otter
  • Dog the judge wants to keep – Louan with Bella

There were stalls with homemade cakes, handcrafts, gifts, books, produce and more.  A bottle tombola and Chinese Raffle ran on the day.  Tea and cakes, hot outdoor food in The Windmill area, speciality beers and children’s games area at The Maltsters.

At the Church – The Ukeladies  played at 2.30pm and again at 4pm.  There was a new display about village history, one on what was found under the church floors and the Photo Club mounted a display of members’ work.

A quiz sheet which could be answered by walking from The Green and around the church was available with a prize going to the first correct answers drawn.  The prize winner for the £50 Lucky Map was Amy Raynor and for the Church Quiz hamper Mandy Moser.

Tea, coffee and cake – and plenty of room to sit and rest in the comfort of our newly-reordered church.

Profits from The Green and the Church came to a very useful £4,186 for the Church (building) Restoration Fund.
