Badby bird notes for February 2017

Highlights around our garden have included a sizeable flock of about a dozen greenfinches which has meant that the feeders have been emptying very quickly!

At the start of the year we had an occasional visit from a male blackcap and more recently a chiffchaff. The blackcap is probably a winter visitor from central Europe but the chiffchaff is more likely to be a summer migrant to Britain that has stayed on for the winter.

Elsewhere, an unusual sighting for me, was a male stonechat near the arch gate entrance to Badby woods. There has also been a little egret seen along the Nene between Badby and Newnham.
