Badby bird notes for early April-

Spring is well on the way at last with butterflies on the wing including tortoiseshell, peacock and brimstone. Dog’s mercury was flowering by the end of February and celandines and wood anemone are in bloom. Bluebells are coming out in Badby woods but not in any great numbers yet.

I heard my first chiffchaff at the end of February, though not in Badby, but by the end of March their song could be heard all around the village. Swallows are also in evidence flying over the fields.   RP
