Badby bird notes over Christmas –

Our garden feeders have been busy over the Christmas period mainly with tits but also a few finches, sparrows and those picking up leftovers on the ground – notably woodpigeon, collared dove and jackdaw.

There have also been regular sightings of sparrowhawk looking for prey. I recently saw a sparrowhawk on the front lawn making a meal of a redwing. I watched it for a few minutes before it flew off carrying the remains of the bird with it, leaving nothing but a pile of feathers.

A couple of garden ponds in the village have had visits from herons reported.
